PHYSICAL THERAPY

Put the fire out on those aches and pains to add life to your years

Physical Therapy: FAQ

WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY?

Physical Therapy is a 1-on-1 service that works as a team to identify common muscle, joint, and neurological issues that may be hindering your daily activities.

After evaluation, we will agree on a treatment plan consisting of exercise, hands-on therapy, and education with the end goal of returning to a pain-free, stronger lifestyle.

WHAT INSURANCES DO YOU ACCEPT?

We are contracted to accept reimbursement from Medicare, Medicaid, Aetna, Excellus, and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield. We also accept direct cash pay for physical therapy services if you elect to not use insurance benefits.

DO I NEED A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL?

In New York, "Direct Access" laws allow us to evaluate and treat any patient for 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first, without a doctor's referral. This applies to Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial insurances. However, some commercial payers have their own referral rules, so check with your plan!

WHAT WE TREAT

A few of the most common conditions we see

ARTHRITIS

Osteoarthritis is a typical condition of age-related changes to your joints and it affects 50% of adults over 65 and 85% of those over 75! Despite it being so common, joint pain and stiffness can still be incredibly hard to life with. Exercise continues to be the best weapon against arthritis and we will work together to find ways to improve your quality of life!

BACK PAIN

Back pain can really stop you in your tracks and can certainly be scary. For many, low back and neck pain is a lifelong, recurring issue. We are highly skilled in diagnosing and treating the spine and are passionate about making sure we can tackle these issues once and for all. Exercise and hands-on therapy continue to be the best available treatments for these conditions!

FRACTURES

Falls can happen to the best of us. Between balance issues and decreasing bone density as we age, fractures can pop up more often than we'd like. The good news is physical therapy can help regain strength and range of motion back after immobilization. Additionally, the stronger your muscles get, the thicker your bones grow, preventing risk of future fractures!

BALANCE AND VESTIBULAR DISORDERS

Our balance system needs to be exercised just as much as out muscle and bone systems! Our balance is affected by how well we can see, feel the ground with our feet and joints, and by tiny structures in your ear that help tell your brain where you are in space. With a well-tailored PT program, we will find which parts of the balance system need to be strengthened to help reduce your risk of falls!

POST-OPERATIVE REHAB

Sometimes normal age-related changes such as arthritis can progress to requiring a joint replacement. The hips, knees, and shoulder are the most common joints we see for joint replacements. We are here to support you in your post-operative journey to help you get used to your new implant, decrease pain, and regain your strength and function to help you get back to the activities you love!

CARDIAC REHAB

Heart conditions unfortunately become more prevalent as we age. The good news is that many heart conditions can be treated and prevented by exercise and wellness! If you are looking to prevent a cardiac event or are recovering from a recent event, our knowledge of rehabilitation for the heart and lungs will help you regain endurance and confidence to keep doing the things you love.
